Building on God’s commands to His people to make disciples of all nations and teach them all things that He has commanded (Matthew 28:18-20), the course explores the many ways in which God teaches and prepares His people for leadership in His people, His homes and His work. The course aims to equip students to become Christ-like compassionate effective leaders in the ministry of the Word and life in home and our local congregations. To this end, the course studies exemplary servant leaders throughout the Bible including their strengths, weaknesses and effectiveness in leading the people of God.
The course examines the Biblical content, contexts, needs, aims and organization of the various spheres of leadership in educating, training, equipping and edifying the church, navigating conflict and crises and reaching out to those seeking God. The course discusses the practical challenges of leadership including recruiting, training, encouraging volunteer member leaders to take initiative and serve in the opportunities God prepares for them (Ephesians 2:8–10; 4:11–16). Attention will be given to criteria for self-evaluation and spiritual growth. Some time will be allowed to assess possible merits and pitfalls of various contemporary models of leadership.
