About Us

The Great Lakes Story

Great Lakes Bible College has its roots in the attempt by concerned members of Churches of Christ in the late 1940s to establish a Christian junior college in southern Ontario. Great Lakes Christian High School (formerly Great Lakes Christian College) developed over the years as a fine residential high school in 1952. The post-secondary program, initially called the Faculty of Bible and Missions was formed in 1969 and was renamed in 1975 as the School of Bible and Missions.

In 1987, the post-secondary program secured its Ontario Charter to become an independent institution, taking the current name of Great Lakes Bible College. In 1996, classes were moved to Waterloo, one of Ontario’s prime educational centers. Today, Great Lakes Bible College continues to innovate the programs and format offerings to suit the changing needs of the congregations that she serves. Online Study, especially in 2020, and the following years has allowed us to reach students who take classes (both synchronous and asynchronous) from across Canada and beyond.

GLCHS and GLBC continue as sister institutions in the unified Great Lakes endeavor.

Our Vision

The vision of Great Lakes Bible College is to be a viable institute for Biblical learning and training, equipping the church for spiritual ministry, leadership and service; primarily serving churches of Christ throughout Canada and the northern United States, in addition to providing workers for the Kingdom worldwide.

Our Mission

The mission of Great Lakes Bible College is to provide a university level program of Bible education to prepare its students for effective spiritual living, Christian service, leadership, and world evangelism.

Our Values

  • The life-long pursuit of serious Bible study that leads to godly living.
  • A broad-based curriculum that promotes faith development, personal maturity, and Christian commitment.
  • Enabling students to find their place of Christian service, informed by the past, and challenged by the future. We seek to do that in an environment that honors God.
  • Motivated by the great commission, "to disciple the nations" we prepare students to share the Good News of the Gospel in a way that our culture will understand and embrace.

Our Integrated Learning Model

Our integrated learning model strives to be a holistic approach to learning. If we are to love the Lord with our whole being (Deuteronomy 6:5), then we need an approach to learning that seeks to shape our thoughts and actions toward service.

  • The Bible is our foundation of learning (Psalm 119:97).
  • We are all ministers (Ephesians 4:12; | Peter 2:9) and we want to help equip our students for their ministries by walking, shaping and releasing them as servant leaders in the church and in the world.
  • Developing a Christian worldview is essential to Christian service (Romans I2:1-2).

We have been given the mission to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:18-20). Jesus final command is our first priority and we need to be a people focused on the Word and engaged in ministry. In addition, a Christian worldview is shaped by and shapes both our understanding of God's word and our work of ministry.

Why Choose GLBC?

Where are you going? Where do you hope to be in 10 or 20 years from now? How does Jesus fit into those plans?

Being a disciple of Jesus should not just be part of your life, it should be your life. Our lives are to be about making an impact in our communities and in the lives around us. We seek to make an impact because of who Jesus is and in light of eternity. We are being sent to go into the world to love, serve and proclaim the good news.

Why learn with GLBC? Because we are inviting you to join us in Jesus’ radical world-changing mission. It all begins with being life-long students of the Word of God. We believe in the power of Scripture and its ability to change and transform lives (Hebrews 4:12). However, listening to Jesus also requires putting what He has said into action (Matthew: 24-28). Every disciple of Jesus’ is called to ministry. We want to train and develop ministers to make an impact in the church and their communities.

Here we have Sam Mulligan, a recent graduate, giving us a tour of the library.

God has placed

eternity in our

hearts and we have

been created

for so much more.
